Finally Cooling Off

Today the heat index here was 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

The other day it was 114 degrees Fahrenheit.

I have plans to play (outdoor) basketball with a friend in two days. I covet your prayers.

How was outdoor basketball? Did it get down to 90?

Ha, no. It got down to 113 :) I checked the temp right after I got back. a

I've never sweated so much in my life. After a while you just kind of feel numb to the heat.

We won the first match and lost the next two.

What's with the blog title?

For Americans: I'm sure you've caught the play on words, but what do they mean? Hopefully I don't need to explain "rice." "Ren" is the phonetic spelling of a Chinese character (the first one in the blog title that looks like an upside down "V"). It means "people." Thus, the title conveys both the materialistic and social aspects of Chinese culture.

For Chinese (and other non-Americans): There is an old and very famous book in the U.S. called Of Mice and Men (人鼠之间). The title of this blog sounds very similar, though it has a very different meaning. Since rice is a major food in the East and "ren" is the Chinese word for people, this title means that this blog talks about things of (relating to) China and Chinese culture.
